It'...Yeah, but there is no character in Azureus. It's just a dude striking fancy poses and going between slomotion and super fast. Without a character there's no hint at vulnerability, without vulnerability there's no tension. It's fun, but it won't stick, it's forgettable. If you're going to put all the effort into making a short, why not try and touch your fellow humans, give them something that will become part of them. (not that that is easy)

Not to say don't make it fun. Oktapadi is still my favorite short, because it has a lot of fun action, but it's grounded in universally identifiable emotions.

Your short looks really solid. I don't really have any credentials to critique you :) Production quality seems great to me. Trying to be picky maybe the fade while cleaning up is a little noticeable since it's the only one (feels like it's about to be a montage but then isn't) and the overhead looking down pan shot is a little jittery (you make yourself a home made steady cam?). But seems great, you should definitely make something longer.

Like your article said, Hollywood is ossified and out of ideas. Honestly I think there's potential for a new film world, where inspired creative people make their own stories and get it out to people who want it, without having to compromise for studio politics or things. So I'm always excited to see people doing it, instead of looking for permission to do it. Can't wait to see what you guys do next!Alonsohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02805049234657129031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8717234355488286918.post-90983822898059547842012-01-16T10:45:19.595-08:002012-01-16T10:45:19.595-08:00Hey Alonso!
I agree with you on said point. Altho...Hey Alonso!

I agree with you on said point. Although, I have to say, I was wowed by Azureus when I first saw it.

Here's an interesting article on a related topic....
http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/1193951/10_short_films_currently_being_made_into_bigscreen_features.html

Also, this might not be the best place to do this but I made a live action short test/film recently....I would love to get your views and critique on it. It isn't much story wise because I was trying to tell a very simple story visually and not make it look too amateurish.
Please let me know what you think, Thanks!

http://vimeo.com/34036651Ratul Sarnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07510776132461475256noreply@blogger.com
